Getting food, water, and medical supplies to children in Gaza will be priorities for Save the Children once the pause in hostilities comes into effect on Sunday

A pause in hostilities in Gaza will protect children from bombs and bullets for as long as it holds but must be the turning point to secure a definitive ceasefire and to rapidly increase humanitarian aid to children facing malnutrition and disease, said Save the Children.

The estimated figure comes from Save the Children analysis of a report by the Gaza Protection Cluster – a group of humanitarian organisations including Save the Children - which shows that in the first 11 months of 2024, at least 5,230 children sustained injuries requiring significant rehabilitation support.

Children and families in Gaza have faced five attacks on schools-turned-shelters by Israeli forces in the first week of the new school year, with at least three children reported killed and scores of children injured, said Save the Children.

Israeli airstrikes have killed about 80 people, including an estimated 38 children [1] in Gaza in the first few days of the new year, Save the Children said.

About 235,000 children forced from their homes by bombs, bullets and displacement orders in Gaza are at risk of disease as heavy rains flood tents and turn camps into swamps.

Children living in North Gaza and Gaza governates have been almost completely cut off from supplies of food, water, and medicine since 6 October 2024 when Israeli forces declared the area to be a closed military zone.
