When Tima* found out she was pregnant in July 2023, she was excited to be having her second child and started to think about how she would spoil her new baby. Then in October 2023, the war in Gaza started and everything changed. Tima* and her family were displaced multiple times as fighting expanded across the Gaza strip. They now live in a tent in central Gaza. Tima was terrified about where she would be able to give birth safely, given the continuous attacks on healthcare facilities during the war.

When Tima* visited our maternity unit, where Save the Children provides critical services, she received prenatal care and decided to give birth there.

On April 26, 2024, baby Lana* became the first baby born at our new maternity unit in the Gaza Strip.

However, after three days, baby Lana* developed a fever, refused to breastfeed, and had blood coming from her umbilical cord. Tima* rushed her back to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with sepsis, a life-threatening infection due to the harsh living conditions in their tent. Thanks to the swift actions of Tima* and the care provided by the Emergency Health Unit, Lana* received the treatment she needed and made a full recovery.

Your $100 GiFT could help children like Lana* in Gaza and around the world receive the critical healthcare they need.

Amidst extremely challenging conditions, our staff and partners are supporting the most vulnerable children and families in Gaza and continue to call for a definitive ceasefire as the only way to truly protect children’s lives.
