2024 was a dangerous, disruptive and frightening year for children. From losing their homes, schools and loved ones to devastating drought and hunger... it should never have to be this way.

But despite all the challenges that children have faced this year, with your support, we were able to make incredible strides for them and their universally recognised rights.

January: Supporting families in Mongolia

EXTREME COLD WEATHER, CALLED A 'DZUD', WAS IMPACTING HERDING FAMILIES LIKE 6 YEAR OLD KHONGORZUL'S.

By delivering cash and livestock feed to people living in remote areas, we helped families make it through the harshest months of the year.

February: Preventing pollution in Cambodia

RUBBISH USED TO BE A HUGE PROBLEM FOR FAMILIES LIVING AND WORKING ON TONLE SAP LAKE.

We have been supporting schools and communities to build 'Biobars' out of recycled material, which are placed in waterways to stop rubbish flowing in and polluting their home.

March: Delivering babies in Gaza

LANA WAS THE FIRST BABY BORN AT THE SAVE THE CHILDREN MATERNITY UNIT IN THE GAZA STRIP.

Lana and her mother Tima received care from Save the Children's Emergency Health Unit, despite the challenging circumstances. Amidst the destruction, we were there to help as a new life began.

April: Innovating to save lives in Rwanda

DRONES ARE BEING USED AT MAHAMA REFUGEE CAMP TO FLY IN LIFE SAVING BLOOD DELIVERIES.

Save the Children works with drone company Zipline. The drones are able to deliver both drugs and blood to the remote maternal health clinic. If it's an emergency, the delivery can be there within half an hour which can be vital for mothers experiencing birth complications.

May: Fighting dengue in Laos

IN LAOS, SAVE THE CHILDREN AND THE LAOS GOVERNMENT ARE USING MOSQUITOES TO FIGHT THE DEADLY DENGUE VIRUS.

Mosquitoes were release carrying the Wolbachia bacteria which makes it harder for a mosquito to transmit dengue. These insects will breed with other mosquitoes in the local population, meaning that over time the ability for local mosquitoes to carry dengue will reduce.

June: Ending Child Marriage in Sierra Leone

SIERRA LEONE PASSED A HISTORIC BILL TO BAN CHILD MARRIAGE AFTER GIRLS ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND SAVE THE CHILDREN JOINED FORCES.

Save the Children trained girls like Kuji and Kpemeh to become child marriage champions and campaign successfully in their local areas. The new bill will create a more protective environment for children, particularly girls.

July: Providing clean water in Afghanistan

IN DROUGHT AFFECTED KANDAHAR, VILLAGERS IN ONE AREA WERE FORCED TO LEAVE THEIR HOMES 8 YEARS AGO BECAUSE THERE WAS NO WATER.

Save the Children installed a new solar powered water system, pumping 25 000 litres of clean water a day. This meant displaced families could move home and start farming again.

August: Preventing malaria in Cote D'ivoire

FRANCOIS IS USING HIS BICYCLE TO MAKE SURE CHILDREN WITH MALARIA GET THE HELP THEY NEED.

As a Save the Children community health worker, everyday Francois cycle through his community with vital medications and testing kits. He also raises awareness about preventing malaria, which is helping to lower the number of cases in his area.

September: Helping displaced children thrive in Romania

AT A SPECIAL SUMMER CAMP, DISPLACED CHILDREN FROM UKRAINE ARE MAKING NEW FRIENDS IN A NEW COUNTRY.

The camp is for both Romanian and Ukrainian children, and despite the language barriers, new friendships are forged through fun activities like hiking. The camp helps displaced kids feel more settled in their new home.

October: Creating safe places to play in Lebanon

AS THE SITUATION IN LEBANON DRAMATICALLY ESCALATED, CHILDREN'S MENTAL HEALTH WAS BADLY AFFECTED.

Save the Children set up safe spaces for children to play and recover at the many collective centres, referring them for additional support if needed. Staff did puppet shows and face painting among other supportive activities.

November: Helping children make healthy eating choices in Mexico

10 YEAR OLD ALEX LOVES ATTENDING HIS LOVAL SAVE THE CHILDREN COMMUNITY CLUB, WHERE HE LEARNS ABOUT HEALTHY EATING.

The clubs also have a special focus on their local area, using traditional foods and languages to help connect children with their culture. The children learn valuable lessons and food, hygiene, reading and writing.

December: Providing warmth to families in Ukraine

WINTER MEANS FAMILIES ARE STRUGGLING AGAINST THE COLD IN AREAS OF UKRAINE BADLY AFFECTED BY THE WAR.

Save the Children is helping families like 2 year old Polina's stay warm by providing winter kits, home insulation and repairs to buildings damaged in the war.
