Child Protection

Save the Children works with governments, civil society organizations, and partners to establish robust systems and structures to protect children and their families. We provide vital protection services to children at risk of abuse, neglect, violence, and exploitation, including psychological first aid, case management, child-friendly spaces, family tracing, and community-based care for separated and unaccompanied children.

Our programs focus on building children’s resilience and empowering them to navigate risks and hazards. We strengthen caregivers, community-based protection mechanisms, and local partners to prevent harmful traditional practices such as Physical and Humiliating Punishment, Female Genital Mutilation, and Early Marriage. By ensuring gender-sensitive and gender-transformative approaches, we foster safer and more inclusive environments for all children.

Child Rights Governance

Through our Child Rights Governance work, we aim for long-term impact by supporting the Somali government in developing and implementing sustainable frameworks such as the Child Rights Bill, child protection policies, and the National Plan of Action for Children. Our efforts include budget advocacy, international treaty reporting, and influencing legislation to secure policies that protect children's rights. We also collaborate with Civil Society Organizations to strengthen governance systems, ensuring children’s rights are prioritized and safeguarded. Our integrated approach ensures children benefit from both immediate protection services and lasting systemic changes that uphold their rights and well-being.
