EVERY CHILD, EVERYWHERE, HAS THE RIGHT TO A QUALITY EDUCATION.

A leader in child education around the world, Save the Children works with children, families, schools and communities, as well as supporters, partners and leaders, to help children get ready for and succeed in school – so they can succeed in life. We ensure school is a safe place for children to learn and play, as well as a source for nutritious meals.

In Sri Lanka, we have been working to enhance children’s nutrition and literacy across seven districts through the ‘Food for Education and Child Nutrition’ Programme, working with the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) to support and complement the existing National School Meal Programme (NSMP), prioritizing holistic goals to reduce short-term hunger among school-age children while simultaneously enhancing student attendance, improving quality of literacy instruction and foundational skills, increased attentiveness in classrooms, and the adoption and use of health and dietary practices.

In addition, our signature ‘Literacy Boost’ interventions have contributed to enhancing classroom instructional practices, teacher professional development and generating evidence to develop effective reading pedagogy. Children's reading corners, supported by Save the Children, have helped bolster a love for learning and reading, significantly contributing to improving literacy outcomes for school-age children.
