Child Poverty

Save the Children’s Child Poverty sector is well aligned with the National Government priorities including Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals 1,2,8,13. The sector works with vulnerable communities using innovative development strategies to build household resilience and livelihoods in order to address the underlying drivers of acute and chronic food insecurity and malnutrition. We want to ensure that parents or caregivers are able to provide well for their children.
The first component of our child poverty work focuses on supporting vulnerable communities to meet their immediate and short-term needs through the provision of emergency livelihood inputs and training on improved farming practices; and cash-based assistance. The medium and long-term interventions as the second component focuses on economic recovery, reintegration and building the resilience of vulnerable communities to disaster risks and shocks.
To undertake this work, Save the Children has established trusted partnerships with county governments at all levels who help provide guidance related to livelihoods development models and host workshops/network events to scale up models. Gender and disability are consistently integrated as cross-cutting themes, ensuring that equal participation of all community members is prioritized throughout program design, implementation, and evaluation. This inclusive approach helps promote community participation and engagement, enabling us to make a greater impact and sustain child well-being.
