Nutrition

Save the Children's nutrition work focuses on scaling up evidence of high-impact nutrition interventions among pregnant and lactating mothers, newborns, and children less than five years old. SC uses integrated and multi-sectoral approaches to address the many underlying causes of malnutrition and evidence-based strategies to improve access to safe and nutritious food through nutrition-sensitive agriculture, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), social protection, livelihoods, and school health and nutrition interventions.

We are especially known for our innovative approaches to address malnutrition such as integrating the management of acute malnutrition into integrated management of childhood illnesses (ICCM), Family (mid-upper arm circumference) MUAC, and management of malnutrition among infants less than six months at risk of poor growth and development.  We also collaboratively work with different partners among them county and national government, UN agencies, civil society networks, and local organizations.

•    Working with communities to create sustainable demand for and improve access to quality nutrition and services and to hold their duty bearers to account
•    Working with the National Ministry of Health and County Departments of Health, through sector-wide strengthening approaches to build human and institutional capacity to provide quality nutrition services
•    Advocating for improved governance, enabling policy and resource environment for nutrition interventions, in support of the journey to self-reliance
