Since 1983, Save the Children has been a cornerstone of humanitarian and development assistance in Sudan, currently operating across twelve states out of 18 amidst complex challenges our dedicated staff tirelessly implements a wide range of programs. Our presence in Sudan is a multi-sectoral response programming for children and their families, focusing on Health & Nutrition, Education, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), Cash and Voucher Assistance, Child Protection (CP) and Child Rights Governance (CRG).
The combination of conflict, natural disasters, disease outbreaks and economic degradation has resulted in 25 million people – 51% of the population and more than half of them children - needing humanitarian support. Sudan is now the largest displacement crisis globally as conflict continues to fuel cross-border displacement. After the conflict broke out on April 15, 2023, we had to briefly pause our operations in some of the conflict-affected areas to ensure the safety and well-being of our staff. However, we swiftly adapted our on-going programs and initiated our emergency response in May 2023.
