Access to clean water and sanitation is vital for children and their families, particularly in crisis situations. Save the Children's WASH program envisions a world where every child has the right to survival, protection, and development. Our efforts focus on ensuring that children have access to safe water, sanitation, hygiene essentials, and effective waste management, helping them maintain basic hygiene. Through these interventions, we aim to create lasting improvements driving transformational change in children’s lives.

Impact of Conflict

  • Thousands of children in eastern Sudan are at risk of cholera following a major outbreak caused by widespread flooding, contaminated water, and a decimated health system after 16 months of conflict.

  • More than 28,000 cases of cholera and 836 deaths have been reported between July 22 and the end of October 2024.

  • Actual numbers may be higher due to limited access to health facilities and delayed community referrals, leading to significant underreporting.

  • Recent flooding has damaged water and sanitation systems, displaced 118,000 people, and contaminated 31,240 homes, raising cholera risks
