Digital Communications and Information Officer

ROLE PURPOSE: 

The Digital Communications and Information Officer will work with staff throughout Save the 
Children and a wide range of external actors, including partnering organization and external 
contractors, to ensure Save the Children’s humanitarian response and advocacy in Ukraine is 
effectively presented to the general public. This will be done through the development of 
information and communication products both for digital and print communications.

SCOPE OF ROLE: 

The Digital Communications and Information Officer is responsible for collaboration 
with program teams in implementation of communications, advocacy and campaign strategies, media 
engagement plans, digital and social media strategies. The post holder will work to ensure the 
compliance with government requirements on campaign and advocacy initiatives.
Reports to: Ukraine Country Office Senior Media and Communications Manager

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: 

  • Support Save the Children’s Ukraine with raising public awareness on the education, humanitarian needs, displacement and other issues facing children in Ukraine, through the managing of social media handles; 
  • Provide support with the development and implementation of social media plan as well as production of multimedia materials, website content and other digital work, including cooperating with the Campaigns Manager on updating and managing Child Platform website;
  • Support the team with the administrative duties, including throughout the supplier selection process;
  • Coordinate with colleagues from different departments in communicating the program evidence, best practice and achievements through digital and print means; 
  • Ensuring design of various products for print, e.g. reports, briefing papers, books, including by managing external contractors;
  • Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child safeguarding, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all communications products are of a high quality and conform to  standards and procedures, including brand guidelines and child safeguarding.
  • Ensure the implementation of Save the Children's brand manual by facilitating its dissemination and application among various internal stakeholders

Output expectations:

  • Supporting the planning and implementation of advocacy-related tasks, including those linked to regional and global initiatives;
  • Compiling relevant information, helping to create educational materials, checking quality of videos and images, proof-reading and editing of documents etc.
  • Sharing internal news and announcements, organising internal meetings, taking meeting notes, filing documents and materials online, etc.
  • Effective representation of Save the Children’s positions and messages in advocacy and outreach activities
  • Support communication teams in all administrative and logistic procedures and monitoring processes to ensure timely and effective implementation of services and key processes.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • University degree or equivalent experience in graphic design, journalism, media, communications or similar discipline. 

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • High level of both spoken and written English and Ukrainian. Other regional languages a distinct advantage. Evidence of excellent English verbal and written communication skills for a wide range of different audiences. 
  • At least two years of professional experience in communications, multimedia, journalism, visual and digital or traditional media or external communications work 
  • Successful use of graphic design and/or video editing software
  • Can produce accurate, clear and consistent information and communication outputs relating to both programme support and humanitarian situation 
  • Experience and understanding of the situation in Ukraine.

Desirable

  • Previous INGO experience 
  • Previous experience in an international setting
  • Portfolio of implemented projects
